Every teacher needs evidence that students have met learning goals. Why not take something we already do in the classroom and make it more student-centered and teacher-supported? (It's what we love to do at ConnectingEd!)
Here is the shift- get students involved in choosing and developing HOW they will show you what they know.
1. Choice empowers students and prepares them for life outside of school.
2. Choice engages students because they have some control.
3. Choice increases responsibility, and who doesn't want students to be more responsible??

Check out "How Ill Show What I Know" below.
- You can use it as a hard copy or create a Google or Microsoft Form which will give you all of the student's information in one spreadsheet for easier management.
- Have a class discussion about what an action plan and timeline could look like. Students don't naturally know how to plan ahead- shocking, we know! Have students share their action plans, so you have models.
- Check in regularly with students and require them to submit updates on their progress (again, a Google or Microsoft form is excellent for this).
- Do a Gallery Walk when projects are finished. Let students show off their work and teach each other what they have learned.
