Different Learners. Different Needs.
This summer, I had the opportunity to visit a rural public school in Peru. At first glance, the kindergarten classroom looked surprisingly familiar. But a closer look revealed a very different setting: three-, four-, and five-year-olds learning together, limited materials, no technology, and one teacher.
Through a translator, I had the opportunity to talk with the teacher about her work. Her biggest challenge?
Figuring out how to meet the diverse learning needs of her students with the resources she had.
Sound familiar?
Despite the differences in setting and resources, her challenge was one I hear from teachers back home all the time.
It got me thinking about how we organize learning experiences to meet the needs of the students in front of us. Sometimes improvement doesn't require something new. It begins by looking more closely at how we're using what we already have.
For November's Grow & Go, here's a simple way to explore that in your own classroom.
Want to explore these ideas a little further?
Small tests like these are part of the approach I share in Seeing the System, Leading Change, a practical field guide for educators navigating challenges, opportunities, and change.
If you read it I'd be grateful if you shared your thoughts with me!
